Due Diligence

Through SM&E’s network of offices and in-house resources, we are able to provide our clients with innovative solutions to their environmental and related issues in a timely manner. SM&E staff have been preparing environmental due diligence and compliance audits for more than 15 years. We have completed audits on properties ranging in size from less than one acre to more than 1,000 acres, and facilities ranging from large, complex industrial facilities to largely undeveloped tracts of land. SM&E has conducted Environmental Transaction Screens, Phase I and Phase II ESAs, remedial actions, and feasibility studies throughout the southeastern United States.

SM&E's audit staff understands local, state, and federal regulations and compliance requirements, can quickly assess environmental conditions of properties, evaluate potential liabilities and long-term commitments, and can provide a client with an estimated cost for remediation and closure. SM&E’s environmental due diligence and compliance audits are designed to provide the client with the information necessary to understand potential liability and associated remediation and cleanup responsibilities prior to property acquisition or other transactions. Our goal is to give our clients the information they need to make sound business decisions for regulatory compliance at existing operations.
